Steins;Gate Sequel Light Novel Announced – The Committee of Antimatter

Update: The novel project has now been cancelled, anything below is now merely what could have been.

It seems that a true sequel to Steins;Gate has finally been announced, in the form of a Light Novel named “The Committee of Antimatter”.

Summer 2016, Akihabara. Steins Gate World Line.
Okabe Rintaro and Hashida Itaru have graduated from college and formed a business from the Future Gadget Laboratory.
But, all is not perfect. Only Daru is earning the income from the business, and Okabe is making ends meet by doing odd jobs and answering requests like a detective. One day, Tennouji Nae comes to Okabe with a request. Her father has been acting strange and she wishes for Okabe to get to the root of the issue. Okabe and Tennouji have a strong connection dating back to the time when Okabe drifted through the other World Lines. Okabe is overcome with anxiety. But before he can react to this, he encounters Amane Suzuha, a girl that should not exist in the Steins Gate. After this, the situation slowly becomes more chaotic.

After drifting amongst World Lines for so long and finally reaching the Steins Gate, what lies in store for Okabe—?

Okabe Rintaro. Age 24.

Founder of the Future Gadget Laboratory, he turned it into a business and named himself Company President after graduating from university. But, with Hashida Itaru being the only one that makes money from the lab, Okabe had to pursue new avenues to get by in life. Most of his work is now odd-jobs and detective work, such as finding lost pets and helping out around Akihabara.

He has struggled to reach the peaceful world of the Steins Gate, and strives to keep that peace. But, Tennouji Nae has a job for him, one that may lead to a dark conspiracy being unfurled.

Shiina Mayuri. Age 22.

Okabe’s  childhood friend, a very calm and soothing girl. She’s always smiling and has a carefree air about her.
As of Spring 2016, she works as a teacher in a kindergarten.
She helps manage the finances of the Future Gadget Lab, and takes care of employee welfare (she makes dinner for Okabe).
She happily watches over Okabe and Kurisu’s long-distance relationship, but sometimes has some stern words regarding it.

Hashida Itaru. Age 24.

A close friend of Okabe, and an employee of the Future Gadget Laboratory. His nickname is Daru.
Helped turn the Future Gadget Lab into a business after graduating from University.
Daru creates smartphone applications, PC software and web security programs, at this point he’s supporting the entire company on his own. He moved from the 2D world to the 3D world after meeting a beautiful cosplayer, Amane Yuki, at Comima.

Makise Kurisu. Age 24.

After graduating from the Victor Chondria University she joined the Neuroscience research team at the same institute.
She’s on good terms with the laboratory members she met in 2010, and though she lives in America she pays them a visit whenever she’s in Japan.
Though she and Okabe are in a long-distance relationship, there has been little development between the two and their relationship has become stagnant.

Amane Suzuha. Age 18?

A cheerful, energetic and strange girl working as a part-timer at the Braun Tube Workshop below the lab.
She’s a friendly girl with a love for her bike.
But, she shouldn’t exist… so why is she in the Steins Gate World Line in the year 2016…?

Tennouji Nae. Age 17.

Daughter of Tennouji Yuugo, owner of the Braun Tube Workshop beneath the Future Gadget Lab.
She generally has a shy and reserved personality, but she goes a little haywire sometimes, resulting in the nickname “Flatout Princess”.
Something is going on with her father. Stricken with suspicious worry, she contacts Okabe for help.

It seems the author will not be the original scenario author Hayashi Naotaka, but instead it will be written by Miwa Choushiro.

Naotaka will oversee the scenario of the novel, and production planning will be done by Chiyomaru Shikura, a man who is very involved with the Science Adventure Series in general.

Art will be by Yoshida Tadasu, an artist many of you will be familiar with (Braun manga, Epigraph Trilogy Manga).

    This sounds brilliant.

Do you intend on translating it provided you get the scans? Please say you will, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every translation I have read of yours, though I don’t believe I have actually seen anything in English of relevance to steins gate that you haven’t at least had some involvement in.

I am well and truly hyped!

Rooting for you so you can translate this. Will it consist of a single volume?

    • I appreciate your compliments.
It does appear to be a single, relatively long volume. I’ll see about setting to work on it as soon as I can.

I went to their main site today and it appears its being delayed to January of next year. A shame but I really hope it means there’s more promise for it being good as well as perhaps an anime coming out of it.
